Consideration, I told myself as I gazed up to the first-floor windows, hesitating when I found them lit and Holmes pacing.
A mere habit, I told myself as I walked back and forth in the streets, mirroring Holmes’s movements above.
It was neither. It was, like he had said, a matter of the heart. It was my lack of courage.
