Sherlock60: The Story Continues... with "The Beryl Coronet"

This Sunday, 19th April, we'll be posting our 60 word ficlets for The Beryl Coronet.

Alexander Holder has accepted the Beryl Coronet as security for a bank loan and, reluctant to let it out of his sight, has taken it home with him. In the night, three of the "thirty-nine enormous beryls" (oh, how I want to set up a Sherlock Holmes theatre group, just so we can call ourselves "39 Enormous Beryls"...) are stolen - apparently by Holder's wastrel son. Can Holmes recover the gems and uncover the truth? Join us on Sunday to find out.

If you haven't tried 60 for 60 before, full information - including our schedule - can be found on our profile. But in essence: you read ACD's story and then you write a 60 word story inspired by it! You don't have to post a story every week - just join in whenever you feel like it.

Each Sunday we will also have our weekly discussion post, and Mrs. Hudson's Poetry Page. Any poems inspired by this week’s story can be left as a comment on her post.

Heh. Do you remember the movie Bedazzled? It features (among other gems) the Order of the Leaping Beryllians which commemorates Sister Beryl and her enormous feat (or feet).

I do know Bedazzled ^_^ It's odd but I was just thinking about it the other day - the part where Dudley Moore suddenly finds himself a nun and immediately blows a raspberry to try and end the wish ^^

I'd forgotten about the name of the order - but I wonder if it was lodged there in my subconscious and that's why that bit came back to me ^__^

"The Enormous Beryls" would make a great name for a Scion Society, wouldn't it? Imagine how fun it would be to belong to "The Enormous Beryls of Poughkeepsie" or "The Enormous Beryls of Puddleston-On-Thames"!

(Just had to look up what a Scion Society is... ^^" I don't know anything! ^^) Oh God, I so much want to be an Enormous Beryl now - it's a great idea ^_^

I keep thinking surely someone else must have got there first with the name but I've been Googling and haven't come up with anything.

I'll check into this. It certainly wouldn't be too hard to set up an unaffiliated one, at least virtual. Maybe on a Facebook page...? For fanfic writers, perhaps? Hee!

It's kind of sad to think that just a few years ago, I would have immediately thought about an LJ group.

I would love to be part of a virtual Enormous Beryls group ^_^ Though I have to admit I'm not on Facebook and I'm really not keen on signing up for it. But I suppose the Enormous Beryls could have more than one home..? Anyway, I await with interest the results of your investigations - I'm available if you need me for anything ^^
