My friend Holmes always said that he found women’s minds to be like shifting sand.  Perhaps if he had known more of the female heart, Miss Winter’s actions would not have surprised him as they did.  While I cannot say that Baron Gruner’s monstrousness did not deserve the worst of earthly punishments, the pain she inflicted was that of hell.

Oh, yeah. It's one thing to simply be evil, entirely another to actively overlook it, condone it and wave it away as nothing. Her careless cruelty made it hard to sympathize with her at all, even if she was facing her near certain death. In fact, it's all the harder because of it.

Tell me about it. I used to work with concentrated hydrochloric acid in a lab. Just the fumes alone you could feel burning inside your sinuses and your lungs. I feared getting it on skin all the time. Even worse -- dropping the bottle.

I've had some experience with table saws too. I always had that fear of looking down and seeing one of my fingers down there along with the wood. Ack!

Are you a woodworker?
