Title: The Greek Interpreter: Expertise Level
Author: gardnerhill
Word Count: 60
Rating: G
Warning: None.
Summary: Never play golf with a man named Doc.

“…the conversation … had roamed…from golf clubs to the causes of the change in the obliquity of the ecliptic…”

###

For ten minutes I expounded on the benefits of the nine versus the five iron, the countries that produced hardwoods that made the best mashies, which terrains were best handled by which device.

Holmes, who had scarce been able to contribute two words to that topic, changed the subject so rapidly that I hid my smile at his poorly-hidden pique.

And Holmes was very careful never to mention golf clubs again!

Poor Holmes - he should have declared that golf had no relevance to his work and was therefore unimportant! ^^

Ha! I love this! Brilliant take on one of those obscure, weird, fun 'Baker Street domesticity' passages that are the bread and butter of fandom :)

And I've always found that particular quotation about their conversation very intriguing, because I can't really imagine Holmes being more fluent on the obliquity of the ecliptic than he would be on golf clubs -- I mean, this is a man who didn't know that the earth went around the sun, right? I can't help but think either that it is Watson who is holding up this entire odd conversation, or else Holmes has learned about Watson's hobbies specifically (amongst which he snippily includes astronomy, apparently!). Ah, I love those two.

Thanks so much, I'm so glad someone else was also caught by this little passage and its possibilities! A wonderful 60.
