Author's Notes: ...the shop of Morse Hudson, who has a place for the sale of pictures and statues…
The tall customer seemed familiar somehow.
“I need a large print,” he said. “To cover an area of… charred wallpaper.”
Morse Hudson considered. “The Death of Chatterton, perhaps?”
“Perfect. Send it to⸺” The gentleman paused abruptly. “Tell me—you’re not related to a Mrs. Hudson? Of Baker Street..?”
“Well, no,” frowned Morse Hudson.
“Thank God for that,” muttered the gentleman.
[A/N: The model used for The Death of Chatterton was a young George Meredith, and it is of course canon that Holmes was an admirer of his (see BOSC).]

Date: 2015-09-27 03:27 pm (UTC)I am really liking this challenge and this community because it is a challenge but it's a nice balance of difficult but not burdensome (if that makes sense?) and I end up learning something about art or history or even canon. It's a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning, I think.

Date: 2015-09-27 05:35 pm (UTC)What I love about this comm is that there's no pressure. It's a place to think and stretch yourself but the emphasis is on fun. It's a place to show off a bit, chat with friends, discuss the stories, find out other people's interpretations and headcanons, learn something new and be encouraged to go and do your own research. I mean, I first read BOSC when I was in my teens but I only looked up George Meredith a couple of years ago - when my first discussion post for BOSC was coming up. And I must have read about him being the model for Chatterton then but it floated out of my mind - I only found the painting again by accident when I was looking for a print that Holmes might want to buy ^^ I love all these connections you can make when you're writing a 60.
The poetry page has turned out really well too. I think because we're all putting our poems in the comments, no-one is self-conscious. (I'm certainly not naturally a poet myself.) And then it's easy to get into conversations about the poems underneath.
I'm very proud of this little comm. Thank you for getting involved and for your lovely contributions ^_^

Date: 2015-09-27 09:46 pm (UTC)Oh, yes - we're all above that sort of thing here *looks shifty* (^___^)
Incidentally, though the 60s are most commonly G-rated, any rating is welcome. The comm rules are just that with anything rated NC-17, the text of the 60 has to go behind an LJ cut ^^
