Canon Story: The Golden Pince-Nez
Title: We All Have Our Crosses to Bear
Author: [livejournal.com profile] scfrankles
Rating: G
Author's Notes: ...it is nothing more exciting than an Abbey’s accounts dating from the second half of the fifteenth century. A 15th century genderswap AU. (What?)

“Sister Sherlock. Sister Johanna.” Abbess Hudson hesitated. “It’s about your… adventures.”

Sister Johanna frowned. “I had to wallop that thief, Abbess! He pulled a knife!”

“Yes. I—”

“And someone had to investigate those murders!” protested Sister Sherlock.

“Yes! You’re doing God’s work! It’s just…” The Abbess sighed. “Perhaps don’t be so... thorough during confession. Poor Father Lestrade looks positively ashen.”

I see what you did there!

Of course, any realistic Medieval AU would have BEGUN with Sherlock Holmes getting burnt as a witch.

Way ahead of you. I took a stab at the genre (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1608497) myself.

Hee hee. Thanks. Others have done more extensive work, such as mildredandbobbin's "The Beast of Baskerville" - and I have pondered re-winding that story so that John's ship comes in to port 2 days earlier, just in time to get caught up in the frightened mob of witch-burners and possibly save an innocent man...

That's the trouble with being TOO realistic when you're dealing with such an ugly time.

Crimefighting medieval nuns? I'm totally on board with reading that one.

I can't really believe Father Lestrade wouldn't very much enjoy hearing about the cases, and as much as possible. I know I want to hear more.

Of course Abbess Hudson's real concern is the amount of the abbey's liquour Father Lestrade is drinking after hearing confession.
