Welcome once again to my poetry page!

I hope each week you will read Dr. Watson’s delightful narrative and then be inspired to write a poem related to it in some way. All forms of poetry are permitted, and further down the page there is a selection you might like to consider using over the coming weeks.

This week my featured form is the Etheree.

Shadow Poetry gives this definition:

The poetry form Etheree consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables.

The Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Double Etheree: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

There is also the Double Reverse Etheree: 10, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

Some further information from The Poets Garret:

...the Etheree is a ten line form ascending in syllable count for ten unrhymed lines. It's attributed to an American poet, Etheree Taylor Armstrong of Arkansas. An Etheree should focus on one idea or subject.

Here is my example poem:

Top
of his
profession
is Mycroft Holmes.
In fact I should say,
as Mister Holmes stated,
“His position is unique.”
This unambitious man remains
wholly indispensable and the
foundation of the British government.
