Canon Story: The Creeping Man
Title: A Yarn
Author: [livejournal.com profile] scfrankles
Rating: G
Author's Notes: “It is a tangled skein, you understand, and I am looking for a loose end.” “...striving... for the secret of rejuvenescence…” The friends of Mr. Sherlock Holmes will be glad to learn that he is still alive and well, though somewhat crippled by occasional attacks of rheumatism. (Watson’s preface to His Last Bow.)

“Few loose ends… But a pattern begins to emerge…”

Holmes smiled in satisfaction at his work.

And carried on in purl stitch.

“So he’s knitting,” said Mrs. Hudson.

“Believes it’ll rejuvenate his finger joints,” sighed Watson.

“And what’s... that... he’s making?”

“A waistcoat.” Watson’s shoulders slumped. “For me.”

Mrs. Hudson patted his arm.

“I’ll arrange a little washing ‘mishap’, Doctor.”

Fortunately that curly-haired stranger in the funny blue kiosk took away that ghastly far-too-long scarf Holmes turned out as well.

I'm sure it will be a striking waistcoat.

Agreed. Although I was reminded of the knitted waistcoats in the Jeeves and Wooster series.

And then there was the time Bessie 'accidentally' (due to a tip) knocked the ball of wool on the floor and kicked it underneath the mat.

Aw. I think Watson would wear whatever Holmes knitted proudly--under two layers, of course.

Bravo, Mrs Hudson. But, novice knitters being what they are, it'll probably end up as a winter jacket for Toby.
