A.N.: According to Wikipedia, the Monkey Gland was created in the 1920s by Harry MacElhone, owner of Harry's New York Bar in Paris. It is named after the surgical technique of grafting monkey testicle tissue into humans made famous by Doctor Serge Voronoff.

The Monkey Gland

2 drops of grenadine

1 3/4 ounces of gin

2 drops of absinthe

1 ounce of orange juice

Combine in a shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a chilled glass. Enjoy with your faithful Boswell at the ‘Chequers’ before catching the early train to town. Best accompanied by talk of above-reproach linen and little-farm dreams.

I've just been reading about the Monkey Gland and Voronoff on Wiki myself. What an interesting and original aspect for you to choose to write about for your 60 ^^

I love your last line - it so poignantly points out the difference between Presbury and Holmes. Presbury wants to recapture the past; Holmes is content to move forward, onto the next part of his life.

Of course, ALWAYS bees! I don't know if the monkey would agree with you...better to drink in their honor and leave the actual testicle on its owner, I think.
