The paper fell.
“Not only his.”
He’d arrived harried, anxious, adorably confused. He’d set him right; that was his job. Books, articles, photographs. Shared moments as delicate and precious as porcelain.
He snatched up the paper. Had he—?
“…my friend, Lomax, the sublibrarian…”
He smiled, clutching the words to his chest.

Lomax does seem just to pop up out of nowhere ^^ Like Stamford and Thurston, a friend of Watson who's never mentioned again.

I love the idea Lomax is carrying a torch for Watson. (Though to be fair, who doesn't? ^_^) It's so sweet and so poignant how much the little mention means to him.
