Then there's the case of Cheryl Holmes - a scarred Jewish dwarf with one leg congenitally shorter than the other. Brilliant but extremely bitter.

The descriptions of the leprosy patients in the story do make uncomfortable reading - words like "monster" and "creature". Makes them seem less than human. But then it is Godfrey describing them in that way - he can perhaps be excused his horror because he believes that's the fate awaiting him.
