I sought a quiet place to retire after a long and adventuresome life. This secluded cove seemed a perfect place.

But the local neighbors intruded on my new home, even bothering me when I was trying to dine.

I’d made up my mind to move out at the next high tide when the land-monsters came back.

I’d only wanted peace.

You're quite right - the jellyfish isn't a villain. And it may not even have attacked poor McPherson - he may just have come into contact with it.

This isn't the first time I've written from the jellyfish's POV. Lion's Manes only come into tidepools at their life's end to lay their eggs - so it, too, was only seeking a nice place in Sussex to retire. And it got executed over one count of involuntary manslaughter.

Saddest part is that Lion's-Mane jellyfish only go into tidepools at the end of their lives to lay their eggs - it too was only looking for a quiet retirement spot in Sussex.
