Yeah, your 60 from a couple of weeks back, the one with Holmes at Watson's grave has definitely stuck with me and indirectly influenced my Holmes characterization in more than one fic, in both 'verses.

You do wonder when reading STUD, why exactly Holmes chooses to invite Watson along on the case. I love your interpretation of the subtext.

In the BBC Radio series, STUD has a moving-in scene where Watson almost collapses from exhaustion - and Holmes hides his solicitousness by showing off his violin and playing ability while Watson rests; Holmes is acutely aware that Watson's proud and scorns pity despite his weakness.

A seemingly-careless invitation to accompany his new flatmate lets an ex-soldier retain his dignity.
