Yeah, I think everybody learns early on that confronting Holmes directly gets you nowhere. And that it's a surer path to vent your frustration on the companion and get him to do your strong-arming.

Good luck with that, Lestrade-- I suspect Unofficial Holmes judged you'd been a trifle cavalier, and told you "as much or as little" as he chose!

Whether Lestrade interpreted it as a 'sure thing' when it wasn't or Holmes was just messing with him or it was a honest but complete miscommunication between the two, I don't know, but might make for a funny story in and of itself.
