Summary: Holmes an Watson have a late-night discussion.
Warning: Implied snuggles

I relapsed into my chair, kneading the injured leg, with difficulty as my shoulder also had begun to ache.

“Watson?  John?  Where have you gone?”

“I’m here,” I said, stifling a painful grunt.

Sherlock materialized at my side, eyes glittering in concern.  “Surely, John, you should try some morphine.”

“No.”

“At least come back to bed. I’ll help you up.”

Possibly terrified of falling back into his addiction. More than one fragile person at Baker Street.

I suppose seeing Holmes abusing morphine would be enough to put Watson off using it, even for genuine medical problems.

Living with an addict does tend to affect one's own use of the same drug. But perhaps Holmes will come up with some other palliative for him. Or, at the very least, some comfort.
