Canon Story: The Five Orange Pips
Rating: Gen
Summary: Watson defends Aunt Morstan.
Author's Note: This is based on [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity's So Keen a Sympathy, which ends with former girlfriends Mary and Kate Whitney from "The Man with the Twisted Lip" going to the Continent together (with Watson's blessing) while Kate's husband is away in rehab.

“An aunt,” I repeated.

Holmes nodded. “No doubt an elderly aunt requiring a robust traveling companion to fully enjoy her tour of the Continent?”

“Precisely. A change’s as good as a rest. It will do them both a world of good.”

“Mrs. Watson is assured that you are in good hands whilst she’s away?”

“She’s every faith in Mrs. Hudson.”

That is a great fic by sanguinity. I must admit I'm never entirely comfortable with stories in which Watson and Mary's relationship isn't how Watson presents it in SIGN, but it is a most intriguing version of their marriage and an excellent version of Mary.

In your 60, I do like that last line ^^ A secret necessarily concealed underneath the statement of course, but also Watson being cheeky and teasing Holmes ^_^

Can't blame Mary for trusting Watson to Mrs Hudson.

The last sentence is absolutely brilliant, I did not see that Mrs. Hudson coming *ROFL*.

How fun... although I must confess that I secretly think of them being in other hands.

Oh! Look! It's a thing! A thingety thing! A thingety thing thing!

I've been swamped with everything and not keeping up with the comm proper at all (although trying to keep up with the reading!), and when I was reading FIVE I hit the line about visiting her mother, and remembered I'd made a joke about that in "Sympathy" and wondered if I could pull together a sixty for it... And then was immediately hit with a wave of can't-cope exhaustion.

AND YOU DID IT FOR ME. Hooray! \o/

I thought your summary was a fine one; it has everything the reader needs to know to be getting on with your 60, and doesn't belabor any point overmuch. Would that I could do so well, when I need to summarize a thing.

And I am pleased you like the story so well. (And not just at the moment that you read it, but that it stuck with you after! Really, just this pleased.)
