Canon Story: The Man with the Twisted Lip
Title: Frustration (the serialisation of the Private Journal of Dr Watson)
Author:thesmallhobbit

The case of Neville St Clair turned out well, but for many an encounter with an opium den leads to personal disaster and ruin for their innocent family.  I do what I can to speak out against the drug, but there are too many who prefer to ignore the presence of such iniquities until they are personally touched by them.

A downbeat and heartfelt entry from the doctor. I hope Isa Whitney at least eventually kicked the habit for the sake of his wife.

A doctor's life must be frustrating at times. And Watson points out a universal truth, that it is much easier to attain a habit than to rid oneself of it.

The poor man is speaking from experience - not just via Holmes but his drunken brother.

The reader certainly can believe Waton would write something like this. You've got his voice dead right.

Yes...and a limit to what Watson, and others like him, can do.
