Canon Story: Charles Augustus Milverton
Rating: G
Summary: Some sleep well, some poorly, some forevermore.

"You've made me lose a good night's rest, my dear.”
“Do you sleep, Mister Milverton?”
“Most soundly. The servants often joke that it is impossible to wake me.”
“I don’t sleep. Not since you threatened me, not since you made good on your threat, not since you ruined my happiness, but you shall rest now and so shall I, finally.”

That's such a powerful moment in the story - it would work beautifully as an aria in an opera, or a scene from Japanese Noh theater.

You've made me consider something I've never thought about before. I've always only thought about Milverton's heavy sleeping in terms of it being useful for Holmes and Watson to burgle his home. But of course Milverton sleeps easy - while his victims don't.

I really like your final phrase: "...you shall rest now and so shall I, finally.”

I had to look up plethoric too. But I've suddenly realised it's like plethora - a word I did already know ^^

And it seems to come up a lot - successful, powerful people saying they only needed a little sleep. But then it generally comes out that though they were only sleeping a few hours at night, they were taking naps during the day. So...
