Watson expresses some surprise that I do not consider the victims foolish to leave written evidence of their indiscretions. He approves of my pity, pity that may excuse even stony-faced murder.

I place a grateful hand on his shoulder, fidelity and affection steadfast in his answering smile. I pity them, rather, that they need mere words to say their love.

Thank you. I'm put in mind of Jack Hawkins as Allenby at the start of Lawrence of Arabia (ah, what a script!), being bothered by a newspaper hack at the memorial service: "what, more words?". I can't help feeling that Holmes would take the same tack - what is self-evident doesn't need stating.

ETA: never really thanked you properly for this sterling idea, you know. It's been such a treat to re-read these stories, be reminded why I love 'em, and be challenged as a writer to work to 60 words when I usually run to thousands. Thank you.

ETA: Forgot to mention that I'm glad the 60 words is working for you. I know it's a pretty daunting challenge sometimes. I rather love it, myself. I find myself attracted to efficiency in writing, so if I can get the feeling and character I wanted covered done in just 60 words, I am quite happy about it. I'm very impressed that you're able to work both ends of the length spectrum so well. You write such elegant prose.

How kind. The English language is such a gift: I so hear you on the joy it is when just the right phrase pops into ones mind. Except in my case, it's all too often been dragged kicking and screaming into the light of day :-D

Awww, thank you, my dear. I'm happy to do it. I have a lot of fun with this, and it seems like a fair number of people are finding it fun as well! It's a lovely unexpected surprise to me and I'm still so excited about it, honestly. :)

My two cents: Of course it's possible, and it would be fantastic if you did! I think you could just go ahead and post them here in their entirety, just as usual. The schedule (in my opinion) is more to keep track of what's coming up and what we've already covered, than any kind of bar to participation. :-) I know I'd be thrilled to see your entries for all of the cases!
