Author's Notes: I remember the date very well, for it was in the same month that Holmes refused a knighthood for services which may perhaps some day be described. Victoria had died the year before, leaving a minor request in her will…

“So… you’re going to turn it down?” Watson grinned. “But it’s such an honour…”

Holmes scowled. “It’d be different if it was for my work.”

He looked at the letter again.

“But I refuse to tell people it’s because I freed Queen Victoria’s bustle from Mycroft’s armchair!”

Watson laughed.

“Nice to see the old girl retained a sense of humour.”

What greater assistance can one render one's monarch?

Hilarious! Poor Holmes. Perhaps Mycroft's chair was sticky.

It wasn't for Holmes's work? But isn't his work solving delicate little problems...?

This does make me wonder how many of the cases Watson hints at have been held back because Holmes finds them EMBARASSING.

I might pinch that for my ACD Holmesfest sign-up :P Excellent. May you be the recipient of the best embarrassing antics.

And goodness, I see I haven't missed sign-ups, despite my lollygagging ways. Last time the fest ran, I was far too intimidated by the ACD-centric scene to play. (Not that that's really changed in the interim...)
