“How can I thank you?”
“Remember my words. Share them with one as you were.”
“The English translation? ‘Your life is not your own. Keep your hands off it.’”
“You mayn’t see your friend again, Sigerson. He mayn’t forgive your deception. Nevertheless, you are strong, irreplaceable. Now,” he grinned, “shall we, as the Americans say, paint the Llhasa town red?”

An interesting look at those words.

I hope Llhasa recovered!

It makes Holmes' words to Mrs. Ronder even more poignant, knowing it was counsel given to him first - knowing he understands what she's feeling. And I like that the lama didn't pretend that everything was going to automatically be all right - he prepared Holmes for the worst.

And that may be the case for Mrs. Ronder. She may never find contentment again (though I hope she does) - life may always be a struggle for her. But I still think Holmes was right to tell her to keep living.
