Mrs. Hudson's Festive Poetry Page
Aug. 6th, 2017 08:02 amWelcome to my last ever poetry page at
sherlock60!
It is a special festive page to mark the occasion, and so perhaps you might like to make use of the lighthearted limerick form for your poems. But as always any form is permissible. And it’s liberty hall regarding subject matter. Maybe you would like to write a farewell to Round 5? Or write about your favourite canon story or favourite character? Or write a response to one of the 60-word stories in this round? It is entirely your choice.
I also thought it would be lovely to pick out some of my favourite submissions to the poetry page, and below you will find links to poems for each one of the 60 stories. These are poems that stuck in my head or caught my eye as I looked back. But there were so many wonderful pieces! Please do put your own links in the comments if there are other poems that you remember fondly—your own or other people’s.

Of course, the poetry page has afforded me the opportunity of trying my hand at poetry myself. And though after two rounds I can safely say poetry is not my forte, I do not regret a thing.
So, here is my own final poetic effort at
sherlock60. I chose to rework the lyrics to that marvellous love song ‘Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye’ by Mr. Cole Porter. And—in for a penny, in for a pound—I have decided to perform the resulting song for you.
Excitingly, I have managed to entice Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson back to assist me with this performance. We have Mr. Holmes on violin, Dr. Watson on percussion, and Rachel on banjolele. And myself of course taking the lead vocals.
So, Mr. Holmes, if you wouldn’t mind... Hit it, dear.
Ahem.
Now it’s time to say goodbye, I sigh a little.
Where’s my gin supply? I need to try a little.
Why have those mods above me dealt such a bitter blow?
Both deciding to leg it, and giving me the heave-ho.
Reading sixty tales, with an air of crime about them.
It never fails—I feel the need to rhyme about them.
There’s no Holmes comm finer:
How strange the change from Sherlock60 to Holmes Minor…
But now it’s time to say goodbye.
And so, thank you to the moderators and to Rachel. Thank you to Mr. Holmes and the doctor.
And thank you to the members of our little community. I hope you will all join me at
holmes_minor in September.
I have been Mrs. Hudson.
