Here we are—right at the end of Round 5 and for Small Hobbit and I, it’s the end of our stint of being in charge.

To finish things off, I thought it might be a nice idea to take a look back at some of my favourite 60s from Rounds 3-5. I’ve tried to include as many writers as possible, past and present, and I hope you won’t mind that I’ve slipped a few of my own 60s in too.

So do take a look! Hopefully a few of these will bring back some pleasant memories…

And that’s it! When I joined sherlock60 just over four years ago, I never imagined that I would end up being one of the mods, that I would make lasting friends, and that I would become so thoroughly familiar with the canon. (Still can’t remember the characters’ names though. Do kind of sympathise with ACD on this one…)

I’m sure thesmallhobbit would like to join me in thanking everyone who took part in Rounds 3-5 in whatever way, but especially debriswoman, gardnerhill, okapi1895 and rachelindeed. And of course we'd like to thank spacemutineer, who kindly allowed us to take over the running of the comm after she and methylviolet10b stepped down.

Small Hobbit and I will be taking more of a backseat from here on in but we will continue to be supportive of the comm. I certainly will be popping round fairly regularly to read and comment.

So, here's to new mod alafaye - we wish them all the best with Round 6! I believe they will be doing an introduction post on 13th August and then the round will be beginning on the 20th. Don’t forget that from now on you will be able to take part here on LJ or at sherlock60 - whatever’s best for you.

And whether you’re taking part in the new round or not, Small Hobbit and I hope you’ll join us over at holmes_minor / holmes_minor for even more canon microfiction and poetry!

I think back very fondly to your time with us. We so appreciated your enthusiasm, and you wrote such wonderful stuff. Your IDEN story listed here is one of my favourite 60s out of the entire comm ^__^

Oh, thank you for this! Being so new in the comm, I haven't had the pleasure of overlapping with some of these writers, and it's lovely to have this as a nudge and a rec-list. :-)

Thank you so much for all the work you and thesmallhobbit have done! I've especially enjoyed the linkspams (as I hope you've been able to tell), and I've learned so much. I do wish that writing sixties was easier for me -- I admire very much everyone else's ability to produce a sixty each and every week! -- but my main goal in joining the comm was to finally read all the stories, and to maybe meet some people and learn some things in the process, and that hope was fulfilled and then some. :-)

And I do understand writing 60s isn't for everyone. I mean, looking at it from the other side, I find it pretty easy to write microfiction but have great problems writing at length.

But reading the stories is really the main point of the comm. And I think we've all enjoyed your comments ^__^

Btw, will you definitely be signing up for ACD Holmesfest...?

You absolutely need a different category of idea for microfiction, and different goals for what you want to accomplish with the finished piece. If I practiced more, those parts of it would come easier, I think. Nevertheless, I am very pleased with some of my ficlets, and likewise pleased I gave the form a try. At some other point in my creative life sixties might fit in with everything else more smoothly.

ACD Holmesfest: I haven't decided yet. *deletes three paragraphs of rambling about not having decided yet* But it would be a nice way to celebrate having read all the stories, and the main thing keeping me out of it in the past -- a lack of confidence in my knowledge of Victorian/Edwardian England -- has been much eased by your educational efforts of this last year-and-a-bit. So... definitely maybe?

...a lack of confidence in my knowledge of Victorian/Edwardian England... I suppose I was blissfully naive but that never really worried me in the past, even when I didn't know the canon that well. The ACD fandom always seemed pretty relaxed and welcoming.

I'm no expert but if you ever wanted a second pair of eyes to do a bit of Victorian-picking (if that's the phrase I'm looking for...), then I would be happy to give it a go.

The ACD fandom is just so good at what it does that I've always been a little overawed. But hey! Nowadays I know the difference between a hansom, a growler, and a dog-cart, and I'm sure that's the kind of detail that will make all the difference in writing an engaging story.
