Education, Mr. Holmes said. Well, only a fool thinks he’s learned everything, and he’s no dunce. And I’m no simpleton, either. I’ve learned that it’s better to have him by your side on a case than not; that sometimes it’s best to ask questions before you start Justice’s wheel; and that occasionally it’s best to pretend I’ve a blind eye.

YES GREGSON. This is exactly what I thought about Gregson too -- he deserves credit not only for being a good, brave police detective on his own, but also for wisely recognizing that if Sherlock Holmes is around when you're on a case, USE HIM. :)

Yes, the Yard really should have included that in their basic training, particularly after Holmes' return: if Mr. Holmes appears in relation to a case you're on, LISTEN TO HIM AND USE HIM IF HE'S WILLING.

I dunno; I think the ACD Yarders get it pretty thick from Holmes in canon, and therefore probably could use the "...and don't punch him..." equivalent advice. ;-)

Thank you! Gregson is the smartest inspector at the Yard, according to Holmes, although I think Holmes likes Lestrade better overall. ;-)
