Here I was, assuming Watson to have been able to smell a female from two miles away. This case had brought us all more of an education than even I could have expected. Maybe I should enhance his share by future practise - sample collections of odours could hardly occupy more than half the kitchen, could they? A fascinating idea.

Date: 2012-03-03 09:40 pm (UTC)Quite an interesting angle for your Holmes here! He's got a bit of a sharp tongue, doesn't he? Can't wait to see what you've got in store for us for the future...
One thing, though -- the ficlets here are made to all be 60 words long. This one is short at 33. No worries, but see if you can hit 60 for the next one! :) Thanks again for joining us! It's great to have you!

Date: 2012-03-03 09:56 pm (UTC)To be honest, the slightly mean joke is my fault here. I imagined Holmes thinking that very thought in full seriousness, that his companion should have been able to smell an unusual perfume (with the lady being foreign) from very far off, not to mention that simply everything pointed toward a female being the mysterious lodger, especially after Holmes had already remarked about the stranger not necessarily also being the person up in the room. The "mile" was probably a little exaggerated.
However, I found it amusing to let him write down this thought in full earnestness, while everybody would believe him to be cruel upon the poor doctor. Holmes often seems to be aware of his superior senses and abilities, but I don't think he can be that understanding all the time.
Wow, that was a lot of babbling for such a short thing. ^^" Sorry!
