Mrs Hudson enters with a telegram which Holmes accepts.
Answering Watson’s curious gaze, Holmes explains that Mycroft sends his regards and that Mr Melas is recovering well. Watson is delighted with the news.
Holmes omits reading aloud the coded portion: ‘I’m impressed by your doctor’.

Date: 2018-02-18 08:56 pm (UTC)Your 60 makes me wonder if this is why Holmes delayed mentioning to Watson he had a brother, and delayed introducing the two of them. He knew Mycroft had greater powers of deduction and he worried, even if he knew he was being foolish, that Mycroft might see something negative about Watson that love was making him blind to.
Maybe that little coded message means far more to Holmes than simply a sibling liking his partner.
