Summary: Kids had finished with their meal, and Mrs Lestrade begins clearing the table. Her husband is twirling his fork in his barely touched food.

“Out with it. That supper is sufficiently butchered.”

“That… That Mr Holmes.”

“What’s he done this time?”

“Freed an innocent man by conjuring the correct criminal out of almost thin air.”

“And your upset over that?”

“I was the one who was duped! I arrested the wrong man and could’ve gotten him hanged. If he hadn’t…”

“But he did, love.”

I really like the fact that you have Lestrade here not feeling embarrassed and humiliated by Holmes' trick, but being angry at himself about bring taken in by Oldacre's trick. He puts young McFarlane's life well over any hurt feelings.

Lestrade is a bit pompous at times but he's a good man. And always willing to learn from Holmes.

I feel bad for Lestrade at the end of this case. He tried his best, used his reasoning, and was completely in the wrong. His instincts almost got someone killed. So, how do you trust yourself the next time? Likely that happens to people in this type of work often… So how do they move forward and get their confidence back?

Agreed with the willingness to learn from Holmes. He was questioning Holmes like school boy at the end, which really shows a tremendous amount of humility. Yah, I wrong but how were you right?
