A man scorns his first wife for a younger and whiter woman, then wonders at his wife's anger. His love interest dismisses the woman's rage as a "tropical" temperament.

On three continents I have seen that women are women – and grief and desperation can drive anyone to acts of madness.

Holmes may have cleverly deduced the cause of death, but his lack of knowledge of women would still hamper him in deducing the *reason*.

I can never condone Mrs. Gibson trying to frame Miss Dunbar, but I absolutely understand and sympathise with her anger and despair. I consider Gibson and Miss Dunbar's relationship to be what in modern terms we'd call an emotional affair, and they're indulging in it in Mrs. Gibson's own home.

I thought it was an inspired idea to use Watson's statement in SIGN as a way to challenge how Mrs. Gibson's feelings were belittled.

Thanks. I thought that maybe Watson's "knowledge" of women on 3 continents was exactly that and not just sexual innuendo. He definitely has a better opinion on the tougher sex than does Holmes.
