Canon Story: The Adventure of the Three Garridebs
Title: ... Heidelberg, Cro-Magnon, Flores Man
Words: 60
Rating: G
Warning | Contains: a passion for skulls
Author's Notes: This is pure fiction, as homo floresiensis was only discovered in 2003. Also, the Tolkien Estate takes issue with the small human ancestors being publicly referred to as 'hobbits'. Fair usage applies.

When on that fateful day, Mr. Nathan Garridebs had returned from Birmingham, he had found a cheque for three-hundred pounds, issued from the private accounts of Sherlock Holmes. The generous gift allowed him to acquire what had long been his heart's most fervent desire: a fossil of the smallest of the human races, homo floresiensis, his very own Hobbit skull.

Poor Nathan Garrideb. That would hopefully cheer him up.

I far prefer your ending to the canon one ^__^

It's a very kind thought from Holmes. (Perhaps he's feeling so thoughtful about Nathan because he was so relieved Watson was alright...?) He can't do anything about the non-existent 'five million dollars' but he can manage the 'few hundred pounds' that Nathan mentioned.
