One pistol lay on the ground of the reed-filled lake. The twine attached to it floated in the water. At its other end, a shoal of fish zigzagged around the heavy rock.

The other pistol lay on the floor of the governess' wardrobe. Above it, soft dresses rustled in the dark. The smell of lemon cleaner was faint but everywhere.

Commenting on a 60 - here's a blast from the past ^___^

Echoing the others - some lovely imagery here. And it's such an interesting and original idea to home in on these important parts of the story. There's a horrible kind of tension about it - one half of the pair has fulfilled its purpose as a suicide weapon and is "at rest" but the other is about to play its role of a weapon of (attempted) murder - trying to get Miss Dunbar hanged.
