Catalepsy, catalepsy. A most interesting field of studies indeed. What causes it, and why would the human body react in such a peculiar way?

More though, what happens to the mind in this state? Where does it go? What does it really see? And will we, one day, in the far future, be able to follow it to those realms?

Oh, this is a really interesting angle to take! I love when these 60s surprise me, and this one definitely does. The last line in particular is fascinating. I suppose with our high-tech brain imaging and MRI technology, the far future is today (or very soon anyway). Fantastic.

With a doctor swinging the pen both in and outside the stories, I'm always a little disappointed that we don't see more of the cases' medical aspects.

This project is the perfect way to quickly jot down what we deem lacking, aye? ;)

Very interesting! I can't decide in my head if this is Watson or Dr. Trevelyan speculating - but it doesn't really matter either way, which is just doubly brilliant. This is a really nice and unexpected extrapolation from the story!

Actually it could even be Holmes (his account of having faked the symptoms once got me there) or one of the inspectors. ;) I somehow thought it'd be cool to put these ideas into different characters' heads and see what happens.

At first I was frustrated with the shortness of ACD's stories, but once I had joined this community, I discovered how many chances we're given to fill in the gaps. :)

Very interesting - I can totally see Holmes being intrigued by catalepsy, although I like that you made it possible that it could be either of them.
