Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories. This week, an additional 100-word extended play version available on my personal journal, too, because we're venturing into an area of my own personal head-canon. ;-) I've often wondered how Watson can drift in and out of medical practice the way he does. This is part of my reasoning how he always seems to be able to pick up work when he wants it...

“Sutton was clever. One of his ideas might prove useful.”

“Whatever do you mean?”

“Your health is improving, my dear Watson, if not yet up to a full practice – and I know you are a gambling man. What say you to the idea of speculating on a fellow medico or two of our own – under less usurious terms, of course?”

Once I imagined how Watson opens practise in their flat, and Holmes solves most people's health problems by telling them that their shoes just need to be repaired, or their spouse is slowly poisoning them or something. *lol* You give Holmes a really great idea here. ;)

Thank you! It made sense to me, as this is one of their earliest cases, and Watson is still too frail to go back into practice full-time - yet seems to have no trouble obtaining work later on.

An excellent thought. It would explain how Watson can take off with Holmes at a moment's notice yet still maintain his practice. :D

Thank you! I admit it always puzzled me, how Watson could manage that, and how he had so many other doctors happy to take his rounds when needed. It makes a lot more sense if he's an investor in or co-owner of their practices!
