Then, such confidence seemed the height of naive folly to a man with my experience. Yet years later, after he finally learned the brutal truth that danger foreseen is no less perilous, I found myself wishing we could recapture the spirit of reckless immortality from our younger days. Caution keeps a man alive, but boldness makes his life worth living.
