sherlock60Hello once again. Welcome to the weekend and Silver Blaze. Another great one, full of memorable moments. What did you all think? As always, I've included a few of my scattershot thoughts and questions here. Please add your own!
- Watson is an excellent partner for a detective here. He makes deductions himself about the case early on, he has unrivaled expertise to offer on multiple occasions, and he wisely notices the tracks doubling back when Holmes doesn't. Makes me wish we got to see his true cleverness more often. Maybe if more of the cases had a medical angle. Do you like when Watson has more to do, or do you prefer Holmes to be the center of the action?
- For his part, Holmes seemed very glad to have Watson with him, pinching him gleefully when his idea about the sheep panned out and even letting him in on his case-ending grand reveal before it happens for a change!
- My thought process: "cataract knife" → Victorian eye surgery → OH DEAR GOD NO.
- Gypsies haunt the background here as they do in a number of Holmes' cases. Were they as prevalent in the English landscape as they seem to be from these stories?
- Credit where it's due: Despite lacking slightly in imagination, Gregory does an outstanding job for an inspector. He has already conducted a thorough investigation by the time Holmes and Watson arrive, and he is always ready with any evidence Holmes needs when he needs it. I like seeing some competence out of the police!
- The kidnapping victim is the murderer, and he's also a horse. Fun reveal, I thought. Did you like that unusual resolution?
