Argh, one late and one in under the wire. RL has been kicking my butt lately. I apologize for my lack of commenting and lateness of response. I promise I'll get better someday.

A/N: I was struck by Watson saying, in the beginning, that this was a few weeks prior to his own wedding, and wondered how that might affect his opinion of the case.

Holmes’ words set a fire loose in my brain. I saw our noble bachelor through a different lens. I had not considered the case in the light of my own impending nuptials. Now I found the thought of losing a wife, after all I had gone through to win her, harrowing. I prayed I would not have the same experience.

“Why, the purpose was the same as for Lucas, of course: blackmail.”

Although I do recall a line in REIG where it makes one wonder how innocent Watson might be :-)

Heh, I totally read that as having an -ahem- alternate meaning (nudge nudge wink wink). Maybe he's knowledgeable about intimate matters - he does have experience on three continents - but naive about politics. :-)
