As a huge fist was thrust up into Holmes’s face, he didn’t so much as flinch. Danger never seemed to rattle my friend, indeed, he appeared to thrive on it. No matter the situation, he always appeared confident of a successful outcome. Of course, this time, the stout poker in my hand might have played a part in his confidence.

Sometimes I wonder what someone would make of my tales if they were to read them in 100 years time; not that I expect this to happen.  I am sure that Holmes’ deductions would appear as brilliant as they are now; but what of our attitudes?  Would they seem as dated as those of 100 years ago seem to us?
