Author's Notes: Trevor was the only man I knew, and that only through the accident of his bull terrier freezing on to my ankle one morning as I went down to chapel. [Also, hello! I'm a newb, and very pleased to be here. *waves*]

My deductive talents were even then considerable; but I knew very little of the soul of man, of the heights and depths it could achieve. Had I not been detained that morning on my way to chapel, I wonder – would ever I have learned? No flood or exodus or righteous battle ever harrowed me quite like Mr. Trevor's last testament.

My Victor brought home that spring a most unusual companion in Holmes.  The young man seemed starved of praise as well of nourishment.  He latched onto my off-hand assessment, a comment startled out me by surprise, like water to a parched traveller.     Far beyond this world now, I watch, proud as any father to have guided him towards success.

Author's Notes: I've wondered why Holmes would think to take Mr Trevor's comment to heart.  We do not know much about Holmes' father, but we might guess that he was not terribly supportive of his youngest son's meandering studies, and Holmes might be inclined to listen to an elder mentor who responded favorably to him.

A/N: How would Victor Trevor remember his old schoolmate from Uni? Thanks in part to debriswoman and her fabulous Trevor verses (which you are only seeing a part of here in Sherlock60, I might add :P), I imagine him sitting under a shady banana tree, sipping a fruit cocktail, gazing over his lush tea plantation and reciting the following.

“Sherlock Holmes? How could anyone forget such a strange fellow? I came to know him after my dog taste-tested his leg. He had so many peculiar ideas. Scared my father half to death with his deductions. Still, I’m glad he was around at his end. Wouldn’t mind if Holmes cared to drop by for a cup of tea one day.”
