He was getting old, that was the problem. His joints creaked, he was winded from long walks and just getting out of his fireside armchair in the evening was becoming an adventure. There was only so much a Turkish bath could do. Sooner or later he was going to have to slow down. The question was, how to tell Holmes?

Author's Note: All the bath talk made my brain go directly to Slashtown.

"Why the relaxing and expensive Turkish," he asked, leaning to barely brush his thin lips against my ear, "rather than the invigorating home-made article? I dare say you'd have enjoyed it more."

"You would have, no doubt."

"You're right," he whispered, his breath skittering heat across my skin. "I've been quite deprived. You'll have to make it up to me."

Mr Holmes said to my driver it was urgent so I tore down the roads from Baker Street to Brixton Road as fast as was possible.   I could not have got there any quicker had I had the wings of my namesake.  There was sweat pouring down my sides, but we made it in time and the lady was saved.

LADY – Necessary Researches
It was an experiment, and one long overdue. I sent Watson on his way to discover, if he could, what had become of Lady Frances; and simultaneously to learn if I could be at ease without him.

Three days later, after nightly reminders of the Baskerville matter, I wound up the Abrahams case and was on my way to Baden.
