She waited.

She sat still even as she wanted to flinch from every dark haired man and hide from every Italian word she heard. She stayed, her eyes fixed on where Gennaro had walked away and where he would - soon - return. She waited for when he would come back with news of lodgings; where she would wait again.

Author's Notes: 'If the lady who fainted in the Brixton bus' – she does not interest me.
A charming young man does his own detective work.

For sale: baby mice.

Message received! Ballroom, Saturday.
Will bring shoe.

Character(s): Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, the Luccas, Gregson, Mr. Leverton
Summary: Holmes speculates on how the Luccas will fare after the case.
Warnings: Very mild spoilers for REDC.
Word Count: 60, plus an extended-play version (100 words)
Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.

"Well, Mr. Gregson," said the American, looking across at the official, "I don't know what your British point of view may be, but I guess that in New York this lady's husband will receive a pretty general vote of thanks."

"She will have to come with me and see the chief," Gregson answered. "If what she says is corroborated, I do not think she or her husband has much to fear."

REDC – Not Much to Fear
In truth, I was not entirely sanguine about how well the Luccas might fare with Scotland Yard. British law is often inelastic.

Fortunately, the Pinkerton man provided Mrs. Lucca excellent counsel. Nor did he seem much surprised when she quietly disappeared from official view soon afterwards.

I hear San Francisco is a wondrous city for those seeking a fresh start.

Extended-play edition (100 words):
In truth, I was less sanguine about how well the Luccas might fare with Scotland Yard than I let on to either Watson or Gregson. British law is nearly as inelastic as the terrible choices presented to the pair.

Fortunately, the Pinkerton man must have thought the same. He provided Mrs. Lucca excellent counsel, and together with Gregson, smoothed her way through the initial interview. Nor did he seem much surprised when the lady quietly disappeared from official view.

I have heard San Francisco is a wondrous city for a young couple and their elderly parent making a fresh start.

O/N: It has been noted that our contributors frequently complain about the arrival of Mr Holmes and Dr Watson.  It would appear that the same is once again true.

I moved into this flat because I wished for some peace and quiet and no-one lived here.  Dead bodies are okay, they don’t move around and the other Italian didn’t stay.  But having people burst into the room, practically fighting to be the first one through the door, and holding long conversations, is too much.  I’m going to live elsewhere.
