This week we’re looking at The Greek Interpreter – the story in which Mycroft makes his debut, and we get a glimpse of Holmes’ family history. As usual I've typed up a few thoughts to get the discussion underway.

[To a client] You should have consulted me earlier.

You’re an idiot.

You did well to call me in when you did, Lestrade.

You’re an idiot.

That is a most interesting deduction, Watson.

You’re an idiot but I like you.

What a fool I was not to realise that!

I am brilliant. This was an aberration and does not count.

Mr. Melas
Was kidnapped by two fellas.
His knowledge of Greek
Left him right up the creek.

It was clear that both Holmes had inherited the artist’s powers of observation from their ancestor.  Sherlock, of course, was an accomplished violinist.  It was only later that I would learn how good an artist Mycroft was.  His line drawings of young men would have been good enough to exhibit had it not been for the accuracy of the images.

She'd found the knife in the room they'd rented for the night. Kemp's eerie giggle haunted her dreams; killing him was easy. Harold was harder. Sofia had loved him, once. But he had starved her little brother, killed him with poisonous fumes. Pavlos. When they crossed the Morava she slipped the blood-stained knife between Harold's ribs, right into his heart.

Dr. Watson
Must've thought some
Before he penned Hellenic themes;
Which must be more than what they seem.

Mycroft Holmes
Made no bones
In nearly causing a sticky end
For Melas, who had seemed to be his friend.

Paul Kratides
Seemed a sweetie
In a lousy situation
Starved then killed by suffocation.

Wilson Kemp
Deserved contempt
For helping to deceive a lady
With methods violent and shady.

Harold Latimer
Part-time kidnapper,
His romance started out with chemistry,
And ended up in violent Sophistry.

Dearest Sophy
Seemed a trophy
And if she'd been, as she deserved, adored
She needn't have relied upon her sword.

Mr. Melas
Did not tell us
Everything Kratides said,
Perhaps explaining why Paul's dead.
