“They say this terrible human walks among us – and wherever he goes, dogs die.”

The other canines in the alley shuddered.

But, “G’wan, that’s jes’ a bleedin’ cat-tail,” one rag-earred bulldog sneered.

Roy glared at him. “Old Skip, from 221b? Poisoned. Dash, the Spaniel? Fed to a bigger dog he then shot. Carlo, at Copper Beeches? The Dog-Killer is real.”

Title: Sticks and Stones
Canon Story: The Hound of the Baskervilles, Chapters 1-4
Rating: Mature for implied slash and phallic humour
Summary: A 60-word dick joke, that is all.
Author's Note: Keeping it classy on the 60. That's me!

“Well, Watson, what do you make of it?”
“Interesting, though elementary; larger than a terrier, smaller than a mastiff; though originally a very handsome one, it’s been so knocked about—“
“Some people without possessing genius have a remarkable power of stimulating it,” said Holmes indignantly.
“Put that Penang lawyer aside this Northumberland doctor and we’ll see, my dear man.”

Welcome once again to my poetry page!

I hope each week you will read Dr. Watson’s delightful narrative and then go on to write a poem related to it in some way. All forms of poetry are permitted, and further down the page there is a selection you might like to consider using over the coming weeks.

And here, courtesy of my housemaid Rachel, is this week’s suggested poem to read—a suggestion inspired by the themes and subjects in this week's story. Hopefully you will enjoy the poem, and perhaps it may give you some ideas for a poem of your own or allow you to look at Dr. Watson's story in a new way.

The Great Black Hound Upstairs

Canon Story: The Hound of the Baskervilles, Chaps. 1-4
Title: Conductor of (Sweetness and) Light
Author: [livejournal.com profile] scfrankles
Rating: G
Author's Notes: "Since we have been so unfortunate as to miss him and have no notion of his errand, this accidental souvenir becomes of importance."

“I knew I’d miss a client if we went to that wretched play!”

Holmes stomped off up the stairs.

Watson sighed, and turned to Mrs. Hudson.

Who smiled.

“Emergency procedures were followed, sir. I distracted the gentleman, and he left something behind...”

“Excellent, Mrs. Hudson.”

Watson glanced upwards.

“Hopefully a little deducing will distract Holmes. Until this Dr. Mortimer returns.”

Canon Story: The Hound of the Baskervilles
Title: Death by Hound or Alternative (the serialisation of the Private Journal of Dr Watson)
Author: thesmallhobbit
Rating: G

I am fascinated by the tale of the hound which seems to haunt the heirs of the Baskervilles; not a creature I should like to meet on a dark night.  Although at the moment death by asphyxiation seems a much greater likelihood, given the coarse tobacco Holmes has recently taken to smoking and his apparent inability to open the window.
