We know you all love Dr Watson (yes, Mouselet, we know you love Inspector Hopkins too!) and so we would encourage you to hop, skip and jump along to [community profile] watsons_woes  where during February everyone (and that includes you) is being challenged to share in the love for the good Doctor.

Leave kudos on AO3, leave comments on some of the wonderful fics you have read and artwork you have admired, and even recommend these excellent works to others.  Keep a record of what you have done and you will receive badges in recognition.  What could be easier?

So off you go, ready to earn your badge as a Witness, an Inspector, an Irregular, maybe even a Chronicler or indeed a Master Detective.  Further details are here: Share the Watsonian Love!

It has come to our attention that there is an organisation called Holmestice who will be running what is known as an 'exchange', whereby those who are interested in the adventures of Mr Holmes and Dr Watson, (and indeed many of the other characters we know), make an offering and receive one in return.  We are aware some of our readers might be interested in participating and therefore we are encouraging them to learn a little more.

All that is needed is 1,000 words, or the equivalent, in drawing or in the new-fangled phonograph or similar.  We understand that there are other iterations of Mr Holmes and the good doctor included, but would like to reassure our readers that knowledge of such is not essential.  So if you are looking for an opportunity to write more than 60 words for a story - and indeed more than the 500 for [livejournal.com profile] holmes_minor then you might like to take a look.

If you would like further information, may we encourage you to look here: Winter 2017 sign ups.

Have you ever wondered about some of the cases which Dr Watson mentions but never elaborates on?  Or do you wonder what truly happens behind the closed doors of 221B Baker Street?  Would you like to see more stories with our brilliant consulting detective, his trusty companion, and an assortment of members of New Scotland Yard's finest?  And would you like to share these stories with others?

Then soon you will be able to do so, because ACDHolmesfest is about to happen on Dreamwidth.  Go and take a peek, but you will have to contain your excitement for a little longer, as Signups don't open until Sunday 6 August.

And in the meantime, there's time to buy a new typewriter ribbon and obtain plenty of foolscap paper.
[identity profile] thesmallhobbit.livejournal.com
We know a number of you like to write more than 60 words for a story.  It is of course already possible to write up to 500 words at [livejournal.com profile] holmes_minor but for one month only there are further opportunities at Watson's Woes on Dreamwidth.  That month, as the title of the post indicates, is July.

And for this month, our dear doctor does not need to even suffer woes, but merely enjoy his adventures, or doze peacefully by the fire.  In fact, it is possible to feature the doctor in other places and times.  We understand versions of Dr Watson in the early twenty-first century are very popular.

Each day there will be a different prompt.  And for this year the prompts will be alternating between prompts from previous years and new prompts, with the option to do one or the other or both.  (Or even just chose the prompts which take your fancy.)

So, what are you waiting for?  We understand there is a sale of ink and foolscap paper at a pawnbroker's shop in Coburg Square - just knock on the door and ask for Jabez Wilson.

For further details, see It's Nearly July.

While we're all getting used to our new lodgings, or, living in two places at once, like Dr Watson, living both at Baker Street and elsewhere, we'd like to take the opportunity of reminding you of some others who are also in the neighbourhood.

[community profile] watsons_woes have now moved to Dreamwidth permanently, and are currently discussing continuing with the annual JWP (July Writing Prompts) this year.  So do go and add your voice, and take the opportunity to write more about our lovely Dr Watson.

And don't forget our own little brother comm [community profile] holmes_minor which continues with monthly prompts and activities both here and on Livejournal.

[identity profile] thesmallhobbit.livejournal.com
We all have our own ideas about how Dr Watson would like to spend December, whether it would be hot on the heels of an escaping criminal or sitting comfortably in front of the fire sipping mulled wine.  And now you have the opportunity to share those ideas with others.

Once more this year [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes are running WAdvent, with the chance to contribute tales, poems or artwork.  So can we encourage you to head over to the WAdvent Calendar 2016 and check which dates are available and maybe sign up to take one.  In addition, on the calendar you will see certain dates are marked with a present.  These will be open prompt days when we are promised all sorts of excitement.

And for everyone, whether or not you are able to contribute, don't forget to head to [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes every day in December to open up the next window of the WAdvent Calendar.
[identity profile] thesmallhobbit.livejournal.com
We know many of our readers and commenters have a fondness for Dr Watson.  We would encourage you therefore to join Miss Mary Sutherland in dusting off your typewriter or Mr Jabez Wilson and purchase a penny bottle of ink, a new quill pen and several sheets of foolscap paper, so that you too can participate in the wonders of [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes July Writing Prompts.

Every day there will be a new prompt to provide inspiration.  And rest assured, all your other favourite characters can be involved too.  Indeed, for this month only, it is not necessary to batter, bruise or generally make life difficult for the good doctor - unless you wish to of course.

But if you do not wish to write, you may produce artwork or just go along to read and be entertained.  We understand there will even be derivatives from the One True Telling.

For further details I encourage you to head over to Watson's Woes: Coming in Three Weeks.

Holmes Minor

A new Livejournal comm for all ficlets and poems of 500 words or less, for all characters belonging to the ACD Holmes 'verse.

All are welcome to join Mr Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson in their continuing (short) adventures.  Inspector Lestrade and Inspector Stanley Hopkins will be there, and Mrs Hudson already has the kettle on.  So don't delay - come and play today!

And for extra inspiration: here is our first monthly prompt.
[identity profile] thesmallhobbit.livejournal.com
Does the idea of opening a window of your Advent calendar to see a glimpse of Dr Watson appeal to you?  Maybe you have your own thoughts as to Christmas in Baker Street?  Do you seek further entertainment once the blazing plum pudding has been extinguished?

Then look no further than WAdvent on [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes where each day in December, there will be a little gift. Some days it will be a prompt or other kind of "open" day for anyone to participate. But other days - and they are hoping most days - it will be a work of fiction or art or other creative work, created by a comm member for the entire community to enjoy. That's right - it's 31 days of presents!

So, before you become too immersed in fattening your geese for market - and do remember not to take them to Covent Garden this year - hurry over to WAdvent and Sign Up!

ETA: All entries are now full, but don't forget to head over to [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes during December to enjoy all the submissions.

We encourage all members, visitors and even hangers-on with an interest in Dr John Watson (and who amongst us does not have such an interest) to make haste to visit [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes for their July Writing Prompts which begin on July 1st.

We have been assured Mr Sherlock Holmes himself will be in attendance.

For a historical mystery lover, there are several good stories in Murder Most Medieval; but the one I would bring to this comm's attention is 'The Simple Logic of It', by Margaret Frazer. The detective is solid; yet very much a fifteenth century Holmes.

She has written other Bishop Pecock stories, but this first short story is the only one I have yet read.

It is with great pleasure that we can announce the arrival of Round 6 of the ACD Holmes Fanworks Exchange

original

Sign ups are open now and will close on Sunday 22nd February at [livejournal.com profile] acd_holmesfest

If you are enjoying our 60s, and would like to write more; or maybe your forte is always for the longer work then do go and sign up.  All fanworks are welcome, so artists, podficcers, icon makers, now is your chance to enjoy the love for ACD Holmes.

As Holmes himself would say: Sign up at once if convenient.  If inconvenient, sign up anyway.

You may already be aware of this, but I thought I would let this comm's members know that [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes is looking for new management.

To quote [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler: If you are interested in running or just moderating a fairly large Sherlock Holmes fanfiction-oriented community, please consider taking over this one. It's too big a job for just one person; I would love to turn it over to a team of at least three, as it was still too much work for just E and I to do by ourselves and truly run it like we wanted to with constant challenges and so on. I would love to see a new team breathe new life back into [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes, and bring some excitement over new ideas into the comm.

The comm is also looking for volunteers for things like tag maintaining and comment-meme hosting.

If you are interested, you should comment on the original post, which can be found here. And if you've got any questions, you can PM [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler or [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b!

Posting has now begun over at [livejournal.com profile] acd_holmesfest , and, as Dr Watson might have said, a very pleasant time could be spent there reading about the further adventures of our dear Sherlock Holmes, and admiring the excellent artwork.

Dear Reader, Writer, Contributor in any form, to Sherlock 60,
