Canon Story: The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton
Author: [livejournal.com profile] flawedamythyst
Rating: PG
Pairing: Holmes/Watson

Agatha was reluctant to provide Holmes with all the details he needed, as if her female intuition had picked up his internal disgust at the situation. How could he push past that?

If I truly loved her, what would I do? If she were Watson... The answer was obvious. He took her hand.

“My dear, will you marry me?”

Tut, Holmes. One of these days I'll write an "Agatha sues for breach of promise" story.

That would be the challenging bit, yes. Maybe she uses a consulting detective?

My wayward muse is paying you, isn't she? :-) Argh, wanting to get on with my idea connected to To a Doctor's Wife, not that I'm any further forward than I was in January...

ETA: heck I want to write this!! Strong woman, embarrassed Holmes, upright Watson torn between chivalry and loyalty - how many more buttons does it have to press?

Writing two things at once rarely works for me (60 for 60 excepted) but this time I might give it a shot.

I am glad you went after an explanation for this, because what a strange development it is. At the same time Holmes is investigating a vicious blackmailer, he misleads a woman into an engagement to a false persona. This little window onto it is enlightening (and oh so sweet as well)!

Yes, a bit of a cad, wasn't he? Great job with this missing scene! :)

Well, I can't express it better than spacemutineer did. I do love the way you explained that oddity. And I do adore that he'd marry Watson if he could... or at least ask, I guess. ;D

LOL - I love that you took on that dratted proposal to Agatha, and where you took it. That is indeed one of the more head-scratching moments in this story, particularly given Watson's assertions elsewhere that Holmes was always chivalrous to the fairer sex... He certainly wasn't to Agatha!

Ah--I don't let myself read others until I've read the story and written my own. (So, not stealing! ^^)

Because my heart does go out to the housemaid.
