Canon Story: The Priory School
Title: Eager

Author's Note: It drove me nuts that everyone seemed so cavalier about a child's kidnapping. I preferred to imagine Watson shared my frustration, especially as the investigation dragged on.

"So?" Wide awake, Watson was eager for news. Perhaps less eager than agitated. I tried to soothe him.

"All goes well, my friend."

"This isn't right. We're not doing enough."

"Before tomorrow evening we'll have reached the solution of the mystery. I promise."

"Is he alive? Tell me that, if nothing else."

"The boy is safe, Watson. It ends tomorrow."

A/N: One drabble and one sixty both on the same theme (hence the one title).

“May I say goodbye to Arthur?”

She didn’t look at him but instead kept her eyes on the carriage where her baggage was being packed.

“I think it would for the best if you didn’t,” he said.

There was no surprise on her face, just deep resentment as she turned to glare back at the house. He followed her gaze and saw James in one of the windows, smiling down at his achievement.

“That man will be the death of you,” she said, mildly as if talking of the weather. “And of Arthur. You know. That’s why you don’t listen.”

“Father!”

Not since he had first learnt to walk had his son thrown himself so fully into his arms. But he couldn’t bring himself to scold for the impropriety, just kissed his head and said.

“Arthur, my son, you are well. Praise God you are well.”

“You found me,” Arthur sobbed into his chest. “We can go home.”

Ah.

No.

Title: Drama

Rating: PG
Author's Notes: We have had some dramatic entrances and exits upon our small stage at Baker Street…
…our bearskin hearthrug.
All words are included in the 60 word count. (I’ve gone off at a tangent for this one.)

SITTING ROOM. NIGHT. SEMI-DARKNESS.

Holmes works at an experiment. Occasional explosions.
Watson enters.

Holmes: Could you not sleep?

Watson: (pointedly) No.

Crosses to fireside chair. Trips on bearskin hearthrug.

Watson: Damn!

Noises without. Ruffians enter.

Leader: Die, Mr Holmes!

Watson: (wraps himself in bearskin) Raaaawr!

Ruffians yell. Exit, pursued by a bear.

Big pause.

Holmes: Why the big paws..?

O/N: With apologies for the language used by the horse

Do I look like an effing cow?  Do cows have flowing manes and tails?  Do I sound like a cow?  Nay!  I do not even move like a cow.  So why am I leaving tracks like a bl – er – asted cow?  Something very strange is going on here.  And if I know my owner it is not only strange, but dishonest too.

Character(s): Sherlock Holmes
Summary: Holmes finds evidence in actions - and their lack.
Warnings: Very mild spoilers for PRIO.
Word Count: 60
Author's Notes: 60 words of my own inspired by one of the canon stories.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.

PRIO – Curious Behavior
The behavior of the secretary – and the Duke – in attempting to warn me off heightened my determination to discover the truth and recover the missing boy. No father, no matter how cold or proud, would act so in the face of his son’s disappearance; and no seasoned politician would let his underling speak for him in so delicate a matter.

Author's Notes: (...waves "Hello" from behind a lurker bush...)

My dear Heidegger, I wish I had been more sympathetic when you said you missed your homeland and your family. Is that why you were awake on that fateful night? Perhaps if the students had been more respectful… but then, they took their lead from the other masters. This poor grave is little reward for your gallantry. I’m so sorry.
